Trip Plan

Schedule

Weekend Schedule

Evening

SFO -> Seattle -> Sequim

United UA2279: SFO 4:27 PM -> Seattle 6:47 PM, then drive to the Sequim base.

Work day

Remote work + Lake Crescent shakeout

Primary short run is Mount Storm King if timing works. Marymere Falls / Barnes Creek is the lower-commitment backup if daylight or work timing is tight.

Run + ferry

Long trail run -> 5:15 PM Coho to Victoria

Pick High Divide only if trip-week snow evidence is clearly good. Otherwise protect the Port Angeles ferry margin with Hoh River, Heather Park / Lake Angeles, or Royal Basin.

Race day

Victoria 70.3 -> car ferry to Port Angeles

Race day in Victoria, then return with Nils by car. Sunday night lodging is the booked Port Angeles farm stay.

Return

Hurricane Ridge -> Seattle -> SFO

Hurricane Ridge in the morning, then drive to Seattle for United UA2866: SEA 5:20 PM -> SFO 7:37 PM.

8 GPX files loaded together

Friday pick 1
Mount Storm King
Short, steep Lake Crescent climb AllTrails GPX export
This is the good Friday option if work ends with enough daylight. NPS calls it difficult, steep, and best from May through October, with Lake Crescent views as the payoff.
Friday waterfall add-on 2
Marymere Falls / Barnes Creek
1.8 mi roundtrip, 500 ft gain by WTA; extend on Barnes Creek AllTrails GPX export
A better low-commitment Lake Crescent option if you want actual forest and waterfall terrain after work. Keep it short, or add easy miles on Barnes Creek if daylight is still good.
Saturday epic watchlist 3
High Divide / Seven Lakes Basin
18.2-19 mi, 3,050-4,000 ft gain by NPS/WTA AllTrails GPX export
This is the dream route. It only becomes the Saturday pick if trip-week reports make the snow problem clearly gone; NPS says snow commonly persists until early to mid-July.
Saturday in-park compromise 4
Sol Duc Falls + Deer Lake
8.0 mi roundtrip, 1,650 ft gain by WTA AllTrails GPX export
Good if High Divide is snowy but you still want an in-park mountain run from the Sol Duc side. Shorter than the target long-run window, but it can be paired with extra Sol Duc River miles without destroying the ferry margin.
Saturday alpine option 5
Grand Lake via Badger Valley
8.7 mi loop, about 3,600 ft gain from the GPX file AllTrails GPX export
A shorter but real alpine option from the Hurricane Ridge / Obstruction Point side. Keep it as a conditions-dependent mountain run, not the main 16-22 mile long-run pick.
Saturday fallback if leaving 7 AM 6
Hoh River to Olympus Guard Station
18.0 mi out-and-back, 741 ft gain AllTrails GPX export
This can work if you leave Port Angeles around 7:00 AM: NPS describes Hoh as about a two-hour drive, so that is roughly a 9:00 AM trailhead start. The margin is thin, but an efficient 18-mile run can still leave time to get back before the 4:45 PM walk-on cutoff.
Saturday mountain option 7
Heather Park / Lake Angeles
12.0 mi loop, 4,957 ft gain on AllTrails AllTrails GPX export
More interesting mountain terrain close to Port Angeles, but it needs a fresh conditions check. A late-May snow issue would matter fast on this much gain.
Saturday northeast option 8
Royal Basin
16.0 mi roundtrip, 2,650 ft gain by WTA AllTrails GPX export
A stronger mountain objective than the easy Lake Crescent options. It is on the northeast side, so it can work with Port Angeles lodging, but late-May snow and trail reports matter before committing.
